Clarence Monroe Harper

Graveside services for Clarence Monroe Harper, 79, of Water Street, Washington, were held Tuesday, May 26, 2009, in Washington- Wilkes Memorial Gardens with Roy Powick officiating. He died Saturday, May 23, at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington.

Mr. Harper was a native of Wilkes County and the son of the late John Will and Sara Emma Rhodes Harper. He had retired from Lindsey Chevrolet Co. where he managed the tire department and had worked for Pet Milk Inc. for many years. He served his country in the National Guard and was of non-denominational faith.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Harper of Washington; two sons, Dennis Clarence Harper and his wife Mattie of Thomson, and Ronald David Harper of Tignall; two daughters, Janice Elaine Powick and her husband Roy of Augusta, and Jeannie Ganus and her husband Randall of Lincolnton; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Harper of Tignall; and a sister, Edna Blakey of Tignall.

Pallbearers included David Harper, Jason Bailey, Terry Blakey, Matt Berry, Matthew Powick, and Jimmy Harper. Honorary pallbearers included Brian Farr, William Adams, Jeffrey Blakey, Rhodes Seger, and Steve Brown.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
