John Ralph Smith

Graveside services for John Ralph Smith, 97, of Harper Road, Rayle, were held Saturday, April 21, 2007, at the Palmetto Christian Church Cemetery with James Bowen officiating. He died Wednesday, April 18, at the St. Mary's Hospice House in Bogart.

Mr. Smith was a native of Barrow County and was the son of the late Green Wagner Smith and Fannie Yeargin Smith. He was a retired cattle farmer and a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was the widower of Elizabeth Barrett Smith.

Survivors include three sisters, Hazel Webb of Warrenton, Annette Hughes of Watkinsville, and Wilda Boatwright of Rayle; three step-sons and their wives, Jimmy and Paula Arnold, Lexington, Bobby and Sandra Arnold, Winterville, and Charlie and Linda Arnold, Athens; five grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospice House, 1660 Jennings Mill Rd., Bogart 30622; or to the American Cancer Society.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
