Elizabeth Granade Lindsey

Funeral services for Elizabeth Granade Lindsey, 89, of Washington were held Sunday, February 18, 2007, at the First Baptist Church, Washington, with Rev. Albert W. Huyck Jr. officiating. Interment was in Resthaven Cemetery, Washington. She died Wednesday, February 14, 2007, in Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington.

Mrs. Lindsey was born in Atlanta on October 29, 1917, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Webster and Sarah Elizabeth Camp Granade. She died five days after her husband, Olin L. Lindsey. They had been married for 65 years. Mrs. Lindsey grew up in Wilkes County and graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville in 1942. She was an innovative and skilled educator during the "baby boom" years and retired from teaching at Johnson Elementary School in Columbus. She attended Hilton Terrace Baptist Church in Columbus and was active in many areas of church life. Retirement years were spent in Washington-Wilkes at her childhood home where she became involved in numerous civic and church activities. She was a gifted Sunday School teacher and continued to teach well into her 80s. She delighted friends and family with her gift for storytelling and her sense of humor.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Herman Sifford of Baconton, and Carol Lindsey and Louise Harris of Roswell; a son and daughter-in-law, William Granade and Maureen Lindsey of Powder Springs; a sister, Vivian Granade Wickersham of Washington; seven grandchildren, Stan Thornton, Lindsey Davis, Louis Harris Jr., Katherine McEvoy, Michael Lindsey, John Lindsey, and Christine Lindsey; and three greatgrandchildren, Laura Davis, Stuart Davis, and Brooks McEvoy.

Pallbearers included Stan Thornton, Michael Lindsey, Chris Davis, Louis Harris Jr., John Lindsey, and Michael McEvoy.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 603, Washington 30673; or to the Beaverdam Baptist Church, c/o Miss Marie Maxwell, P.O. Box 692, Washington 30673.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
