Mae Smith Butler

Funeral services for Mae Smith Butler, 89, of Tignall were held Friday, March 9, 2007, at the Independence United Methodist Church, Tignall, with Rev. Marvin Mason officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. She died March 5 in Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington.

Mrs. Butler was a native of Wilkes County and was the daughter of the late Robert Toombs Smith and Annie Bolton Smith. She was the widow of Woodrow W. Butler. She was a payroll clerk for Lucent Technology; and was a member of the Independence United Methodist Church; and a member and judge of the National Chrysanthemum Society. She was an avid china painter.

Survivors include two sisters, Frances Maher and Hilda Smith, both of Atlanta.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Independence United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
