Marcia Crawford Standard

A service of celebration for the life of Marcia Crawford Standard, 74, of Nashville, Tenn., was held Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Calvary Methodist Church in Nashville. Graveside services were held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Nashville. An additional memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. in Atlanta on Saturday, October 17, at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. She died Saturday, October 10, at St. Thomas Alive Hospice after a prolonged illness.

Mrs. Standard was a native of Atlanta, and was the daughter of Logan and Bess Crawford of Atlanta. She was the widow of Dr. Henry Cooper (Mickey) Standard Jr., a native of Wilkes County. A son, Dr. Henry Cooper Standard III, is also deceased. Mrs. Standard attended Emory University in the first class of women admitted to the university. While there, as sweetheart of Chi Phi, she met and later married the fraternity's president, Henry "Mickey" Standard. After the untimely death of her husband, she obtained her Masters of School Administration, while teaching full time, and then becoming the director of admissions at The Lovett School in Atlanta. While at Lovett, she became the principal of the Lower School and founded the Pre- School. She was an active member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and served on the board of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. She founded The Math Set LLC in Atlanta and Nashville which specializes in precisely tailoring math education to children's individual learning styles. She served on the board of Peachtree Road Methodist Church where she taught Bible studies and devoted herself to Children's Christian Education. She was fond of music and an accomplished pianist, a great cook and hostess, a loving mother and grandmother.

Survivors include Dr. and Mrs. Carl R. Hartrampf Jr., Dr. and Mrs. Scott C. Standard, Teresa Standard with grandsons, Scott Crawford Standard Jr., Logan Winfield Standard, John Charles Wilder Standard, Saxon Henry Standard, and Cooper Rowe Standard.
