John Burdette Smith

Funeral services for John Burdette Smith, 85, of S. Smyrna Church Rd., Washington, were held Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at the Smyrna United Methodist Church with Dr. Napp Granade officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. He died Sunday, February 11, in Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington.

Mr. Smith was a native of Washington County and had lived in Wilkes County for most of his life. He was the son of the late Wilbur Smith and Edna Burdette Smith. He was a retired welder and was also active in farming. He was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II and was a member of County Line Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Vaughn Smith of Washington; a daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline S. and David Bailey of Warner Robins; two grandchildren and their spouses, John and Jennifer Curtis and Natalie B. and Aaron Hill; and a great-grandchild, Nathan Luke Bailey.

Pallbearers included Jimmy Griggs, David Garrard, Tony Smith, Kenny Smith, Melvin Bailey, and Stan Arnold.

Memorial contributions may be made to the County Line Baptist Church in Rayle or to the Smyrna United Methodist Church in Washington.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
